San Diego Strawbale Home
This project is located in Escondido, just outside of San Diego, CA.
This project holds special interest for Dave since he is building it for his son Chris and and his wife Wendy. He designed the home of their dreams. The process started by choosing several floor plans that appealed to them. Dave then created a plan that incorporated different aspects from each one. Several minor modifications were made to the original plan. Bathroom Examples: Before,After. The end result can be viewed here. The house is 2300 sq. ft with a 1000 sq. ft. attached garage. It is a 3 bedroom, 2 1/2 bath with a home office. It has a large kitchen with an island and breakfast nook. There is a dining room, entertainment room (an internal room to avoid any glare on the TV) and a living room with a fire place. There is a 10 ft covered patio on the west and south facing sides.

Updated 6/21 Framing continues. Interior walls are going up fast. Very surprised to see "real" walls. Things are moving along nicely.
Updated 6/13 Framing continues. The hardy frames and posts are up and the interior walls are getting started.
Updated 5/27 Framing has started. The garage walls went up fast. The floor is layed out and ready. Next step is the hardy frames and posts for the exterior walls.
Updated The foundation was poured thanks to a heroic effort of the crew. We picked out Kemko Vintage Umber concrete stain for the floors. It is a darker color than we originally planned, but we changed our minds at some point, not sure when. :) The floor was saw cut to create 4' diamonds. The next step is to grout and seal the floor.
